How Many Concrete Spacers with Plastic Clips Do I Need?
These concrete spacers with integrated plastic clips are designed for supporting rebar and mesh from 8 to 16 mm diameter. The four-point base minimises contact with formwork and gives consistent, reliable cover. Here is how to calculate quantities:
Quick guide per mesh sheet
| Slab Type |
Recommended per 3.6 x 2.0 m Mesh Sheet |
| Standard domestic or light commercial slab |
4-6 spacers per sheet |
| Heavy duty, external or structural slab |
6-8 spacers per sheet |
| Formwork / suspended slab |
4-6 per sheet minimum; follow engineer's drawing |
Calculate by slab area
-
Standard slabs: 0.5 spacers per m² (minimum)
-
Heavy duty / structural slabs: 0.75-1 spacer per m²
-
Formwork and suspended elements: follow engineer's specification; use above as minimum
Example: A garage slab 6 m x 5 m (30 m²) at 0.75 spacers per m² = 22.5 spacers. Round up to 25 and add 10% for waste = 28 spacers minimum. Check the pack size for your chosen cover and order accordingly.
Placement tips
- Clip directly onto the rebar or mesh - no tying required
- Space in a staggered grid at approximately 600-800 mm centres
- Ensure the concrete base sits firmly on formwork or blinded surface before loading with steel
- These spacers are ideal for suspended slabs and formwork where point contact and cover accuracy are critical
- Available in six cover sizes - match the cover size to your structural specification
- Add extra spacers at edges, laps and around openings
