D49 Reinforcement Wrapping Mesh - 4.8m x 2.4m - 2.5mm Cross Bar
Alternative Names: D49 Mesh, D49 Wrapping Mesh, D49 Fabric Mesh, Wrapping Mesh, Steel Wrapping Mesh, Reinforcement Wrapping Mesh, Fabric Wrapping Mesh, Floor Screed Mesh, Screed Reinforcement Mesh, Screed Mesh, Anti-Crack Mesh, Crack Control Mesh, Light Reinforcement Mesh, 2.5mm Steel Mesh, Fine Mesh, Welded Wire Mesh, Floor Reinforcement Mesh, Concrete Screed Mesh, Render Mesh, Plaster Mesh, BS4483 Mesh
What is D49 mesh used for? D49 is a light wrapping fabric to BS 4483, woven from 2.5mm wires at close 100mm centres in both directions for 49mm² of steel per metre each way. Unlike the structural A and B fabrics, D49 is not there to carry load: its fine, flexible grid is made for wrapping and crack control. It bends around column and pile cages by hand, reinforces screeds and thin toppings, and gives render and refractory linings something to key onto. Full specifications and a grade-by-grade comparison appear further down this page.
Typical applications
- Wrapping pile, column and beam cages
- Crack control in screeds and thin toppings
- Binding and containment around reinforcement assemblies
- Render, refractory and protective linings
- Light fill panels and general site fabric
Why buy from Next Day Steel
D49 ships next-day in the full 4.8m x 2.4m sheet, and at under 9kg a sheet it is easily handled and cut on site with snips. It pairs naturally with our cut and bent rebar and reinforcement cages, or browse the full reinforcement mesh range for structural grades.

D49 mesh: frequently asked questions
What is D49 mesh used for?
D49 reinforcement mesh is used for floor screeds and crack control, not structural reinforcement. It helps concrete resist tensile and load-bending forces so slabs are less likely to crack.
What size sheets does D49 mesh come in?
D49 is stocked in the sheet sizes shown above (Default Title), and can be cut to size. The 4.8m x 2.4m sheet covers 11.52m² and the 3.6m x 2m sheet covers 7.2m².
What standard is D49 mesh manufactured to?
Our D49 mesh is welded steel fabric manufactured to BS 4483 from Grade B500 wire (BS 4449:2005), CARES approved with full mill traceability. (Reinforcement is certified through the CARES scheme rather than CE marking, as EN 10080 is not a harmonised standard.)
What size mesh do I need for a driveway or slab?
As a guide: A142 suits shed bases and paths, A193/A252 suit domestic driveways, and A393 is used for heavy-duty slabs, car parks and rafts. Always follow your structural engineer's specification where one is provided.
How much does D49 mesh cost?
D49 mesh starts from £46.50 + VAT for the smallest sheet size, and every current sheet price is shown in the size panel above. Bulk-buy discounts apply automatically as weight is added to the cart.
What does the 49 in D49 stand for?
The number is the cross-sectional area of steel in square millimetres per metre width: D49 carries 49 mm² of steel per metre in each direction. The higher the number, the more steel in the sheet and the stronger the reinforcement.
